We have received calls from several members about a phone scam involving electric utility consumers. The calls have been coming from individuals claiming to be Surry-Yadkin EMC officials, and threatening to disconnect power if a payment is not made by money order within 45 minutes. As a reminder, Surry-Yadkin EMC will NOT request payments to be made in such a specific way, and all calls from our office will be from our main number: (336) 356-8241. Also, payments can only be made at the office, through our secure payment gateway, or other 3rd party vendors such as Wal-Mart. So, if you receive a call about your electricity bill, and something feels off....check the number or call to confirm!
